We are featuring one of our most favorite artists on the blog, Amanda Petro. We stumbled upon Amanda’s work on instagram and were completely drawn in to her unique style of painting. She has an eye for creating beautiful color schemes and a vision that stands out from the work of other artists. We found ourselves stalking her page, waiting to see what she would post next. Her art is calming and vibrant, loud and soft, it is the perfect balance of being unfamiliar and familiar at the same time. We can’t pinpoint what it is exactly about Amanda’s work that keeps us coming back for more but we are begging for more and can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
Amanda was raised in the beautiful town of Fairhope, Alabama. She was born with the desire to create, but living in a town of artists and patrons of the arts, definitely further encouraged and ignited her passion. She graduated from The University of Alabama in 2011 with a degree in Studio Art with a concentration in painting. Following her graduation, she studied for a year in the graduate painting program at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta. Currently she lives in Birmingham with her husband Matthew Her studio is at MAKEbhm, an artist co-op.
Amanda says of her work:
“I work in oils and paint on canvas or wood panel. I work most often in an abstract expressionistic style. I let paint be paint. Experimentation plays an instrumental role in my work. I rely on intentional an dintuitive mark making to create my paintings. I’m constantly discovering new color combinations. Each color has a personality and I enjoy encouraging them to interact. I let what exists on a canvas dictate what is to come. Being open to any end result allows my work to evolve.”
We find Amanda’s work inspiring and beautiful and are so happy she has allowed us to share it with all of our followers. You can purchase her unique pieces of art on her website.
